Deep Practice: 108 Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) + Mala Making

  • Cuatro Vientos Todos Santos Mexico (map)

A Unique Experience

New to Todos Santos

An afternoon of guided flow into intention & practice followed by making your own mala.

Let's ground and discover the beauty of a devotional practice. We will move, breathe, and create a ritual object, and emerge with remembrance of our intentions.

With a combined nearly 50 years of experience, Nica Celly from Yogacraft and Suzi will guide you to the center of where breath meets form.

We begin by deepening our personal practice through a mellow and strong vinyasa-based flow that explores the meaning of 108 salutations guided by Nica.

Then we will move into a ritual art-making experience through Suzi's expert mala making, with historical and devotional contexts.

Nica will offer a deep practice that builds intention through preparing the body, and moving towards 108 surya namaskars in a way that is soft and accessible (for all levels, as we begin simply with the breath), and apply our prayers to form: the beads that will make our mala.

After a restorative conclusion, Suzi will guide you to create your own mala, with the whole of the history and meaning from her depth of knowledge.

For this workshop, we will be stringing our beads, rather than hand-knotting them. This method makes the mala making experience more accessible to everyone and takes less time, allowing us to combine the experience with an asana practice.

We will emerge grounded, focused, and with tools - both physical and in practice - to align ourselves into the intentions we set in our new year.

We will be using Golden Aromatic Sandalwood beads which are lightweight and possess an earthy woodsy scent. After the natural scent fades over time, these wood beads make a great carrier for your favorite essential oil.

And a special treat: vegan refreshments provided by Chef Dredz (Hannah!)

Schedule:

2pm: we will gather and begin practice. Feel free to arrive a few moments early to get settled.

around 3:45 pm: we will pause for refreshments (asana only departs, full workshop stays), and begin our mala practice

4:45-5:15: we will learn to use our malas and either begin or return to our japa mala practice.
