Loving Energy Mala Making Workshop

To honor the month of love, we returned to Cuatro Vientos Yoga Studio in Todos Santos for Baja Malas’ 2nd annual Valentine’s Day-inspired-workshop where we used the stone of universal love: ROSE QUARTZ. After we spent some time meditating on LOVE — how we can let it flow more freely through & from us, to those around us— we infused this loving energy into each bead & knot.

After everyone introduced themselves and shared about what inspired them to come to the workshop that day, I led two different meditations on love. For the first, we remained seated as I guided everyone through the Buddhist metta prayer of loving-kindness: Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu. After, the ladies found a comfortable position laying down while I led a visual meditation imagining love as this bright warm golden light that flows into us with each breath, expands throughout our bodies so fully, that with each exhale this loving, warm, glowing energy flows from us to those all around us.

I typically set up the workshops, especially at yoga studios, with everyone in a large circle where we begin. But after I provide instruction and everyone is knotting away, I always encourage my guests to find a space where they are comfortable working. What touched me most about this workshop and the women who gathered, was how everyone stayed in the circle the entire time. It appeared through their actions and their shared words, that all the ladies were seeking and appreciative of the opportunity to sit in community with other women sharing a special, meaningful afternoon together.

“We are human Beings, not human Doings.”

One of our guests, Jenny, shared this with me after the workshop:

This was such a fabulous afternoon Suzi & Hannah. Not only am I totally in love with my Mala, the experience of women in circle (literally) was like sharing/ weaving wisdom, connection & magic … just like our ancestors used to do (before everyone got addicted to busyness. We’ve gotta remember, we are Human BEINGS … not Human Doings. This workshop was the most beautiful experience to remind & anchor this … thank you ladies.

“Suzi & Hannah,

Thanks so much for the wonderful Mala class. I am so happy I signed up & I love my mala. Excellent organization & instruction! Appreciated that the class was MORE than just making a piece of wearable art! I enjoyed all the additional history of malas around the world, the breathing exercises, energy, setting of intention and especially the personal story of the mala you made for Hannah and how much she loves it. What a winning team of joy! Thank you so very much!”
